Committee Report July 2026

Blackpool Senior Seasiders’ committee met at Common Edge Community Sports Village on Monday 20 July 2026 for their AGM and their monthly committee meeting..

Strong progress on and off the pitch

The club continues to enjoy a busy programme of competitive and recreational walking football.

A particular highlight has been the performance of our Over-70s, who finished the latest round of Heywood League fixtures at the top of their division with 29 points.

Our Over-60s have also progressed well in the WFA National Cup, defeating Blackburn on penalties before recording a 3–1 victory away to Liscard Brazil. They will now travel to Winstanley in the Regional NW Final on 8 August.

Recent tournament appearances have brought further success. The Over-60s finished as runners-up at the Blackpool tournament, while both the Over-50s and Over-60s reached their respective finals at Clitheroe, the 60s narrowly losing on penalties.

Representative honours

Blackpool Senior Seasiders are proud to see a growing number of members selected to play for regional, national and specialist representative teams.

  • Neil Martin and Jim Cross have represented North West Warriors, a walking football team supporting players affected by Parkinson’s and stroke.
  • Laurence Berry and Nick Carter were selected for the Greater Manchester Walking Football League Over-60s representative squad for the Isle of Man Tournament.
  • Steve Hyde was selected for the Greater Manchester Walking Football League representative squad for the Isle of Man Tournament.
  • Chris Turner earned selection for the North West WFA Over-60s representative squad.
  • Steve Hyde also represented the North West WFA Over-70s squad.
  • Laurence Berry has represented Walking Football Caribbean at Over-60s level.
  • Steve Hyde was selected for the England Over-70s squad for its Belfast tour, featuring international matches against Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

These honours are tremendous achievements for everyone involved and reflect the ability, determination and commitment found throughout Blackpool Senior Seasiders.

Upcoming football

The next few weeks include a number of fixtures across the age groups:

  • The Over-50s face Heywood in the FA Cup on 2 August.
  • The Over-60s visit Winstanley in the fourth round of the WFA National Cup on 8 August.
  • The Over-70s have friendly matches arranged against North West Warriors and Fleetwood.
  • The Over-60s, Over-65s, Over-70s and Over-75s will all return to Greater Manchester Walking Football League action during the autumn.

The club is also exploring the possibility of additional playing opportunities for its Over-70 and Over-75 members.

Investment in the club

The committee discussed ways to support coaching, player development and the recording of matches and training sessions. Further research will now be carried out into a suitable sports camera system that could help with match analysis and allow the club to share more video content online.

Additional playing kit and club polo shirts have also been ordered.

Website continues to grow

The annual website report showed that the Blackpool Senior Seasiders website attracted 4,744 visits during the year, with 68% of visitors arriving through Google searches.

The homepage and About the Club page remain particularly popular, alongside growing interest in the club’s different age-group teams and ladies’ walking football.

Improvements made during the year include:

  • Dedicated pages for the club’s different sections and squads
  • More match reports, news and competition coverage
  • Better information for people interested in joining
  • A secure online membership directory for authorised organisers
  • The increasingly popular Seasiders Sidelines cartoons

The website will continue to play an important role in promoting the club, celebrating its teams and helping new players discover walking football in Blackpool.

Looking ahead

The committee thanked everyone who continues to contribute to the running of the club, including its organisers, coaches, volunteers and members.

With league fixtures, cup matches, friendly games and social activities planned for the remainder of 2026, there is plenty for the Senior Seasiders community to look forward to.
