We Are Blackpool Senior Seasiders!
Walking Football Club
Blackpool Senior Seasiders Walking Football Club have Over 50’s, Over 60’s, Over 65’s, Over 70’s and Over 75’s teams with sessions every week!
About Us
It all started out as part of the Age UK and Blackpool FC Community Trust initiative. Walking Football is a slower version of the beautiful game, which is a minimal-contact sport with one main difference from standard football—no running! It is a great way to keep fit, learn new skills, have fun, and socialise all at the same time.
The first session was launched in December 2013 at Blackpool Sports Centre with the support of the late Age UK Blackpool President, Jimmy Armfield, Ex-England, Blackpool Player and Sports Broadcaster. “I only came to watch but once I was here I couldn’t resist joining in,” said 78-year-old Armfield. “Once a footballer always a footballer”.
A competitive team emerged from those early days and played in various tournaments. We now have various age groups of teams due to the increase in the number of people who attend our walking football sessions.
In recent times, we have won the Football League Trust National Walking Football Cup, the Lancashire League, and the North West Regional finals for the third year in a row as part of the English Football League Trust National Walking Football Tournament, amongst many others from all age groups.

As a Club, we have a Duty of Care to ALL those who participate in our training sessions. This Duty of Care extends to all games and competitions and includes those playing against us, refereeing us and coaching us. We will do everything in our power to ensure the physical and mental well being of those who play with us, against us and contribute to our participation. This is our commitment as a Club.

Our Heavenly Squad
Senior Seasiders who have sadly passed away…
Graham Bardsley
Rev Michael Ward
Played in our very first competition. Away in Derbyshire and famous for the Reverend making his ‘Betty Bap’s’ comment. He was also Chaplain to Blackpool FC.
Jim Morgan
An uncompromising defender built like ‘the proverbial door’, he often took man as well as ball. Scored a stunning goal to win a tournament in Wigan.
Ken Philbin
The unofficial ‘Club Joker’. Nothing could keep him down. A frustrating player who often mixed the brilliant with the dreadful, usually in the same game. Greatly missed by his mates.
John Streetley
John never played competitively for us but probably the best player so far in the squad. He had serious health difficulties when he joined us but class always comes through. He was an ex semi professional who was very well known in the area.
This squad will get substantially bigger in these next years. Time catches up with us all.
