Walking Football could soon take an important step forward, with The Football Association and the Walking Football Association working towards a single, unified set of Laws of the Game.
The two organisations confirmed earlier this year that they had entered positive discussions about the future development of Walking Football. Their shared aim is to establish a consistent approach that will help the game continue to grow and reach its full potential.
As part of this work, the existing FA and WFA laws have been reviewed, with the possibility of introducing one set of laws for use across the game.
Encouraging Update for Referees
Blackpool Senior Seasiders Chairman Les Turner has now received a further encouraging update through his referees’ group.
According to the communication, discussions between The FA and the WFA are nearing completion. It has also been indicated that referees qualified through either organisation will be recognised by both.
A final decision is reportedly hoped for within the coming weeks, although the full agreement and any revised laws have not yet been officially published.
Les welcomed the development, saying:
“Talks between the WFA and FA regarding a unified set of laws are nearing completion, and it has been agreed that WFA and FA referees will be recognised by each other. It is hoped that a final decision is weeks away.”
A Positive Step for Walking Football
For many clubs, players, coaches and referees, the prospect of unified laws will be very welcome.
Differences between FA and WFA competitions have sometimes caused uncertainty, particularly when teams and referees move between leagues and tournaments operating under different rules.
One recognised set of laws should bring greater consistency and make it easier for everyone involved to understand how matches will be played and officiated.
Blackpool Senior Seasiders welcomes the progress being made and looks forward to seeing the final proposals. We will provide members with a further update once an official agreement and the unified Laws of the Game have been published.
