The Seasiders travelled to Heywood for the sixth round of the GMWFL Over 70s league division 2 fixtures, and it proved to be another competitive afternoon of walking football.
Results:
- Blackpool 0 – 0 Salcom
- Blackpool 0 – 2 Moston Brook
- Blackpool 1 – 0 Burnley
- Blackpool 0 – 0 Preston
Blackpool began the session strongly, earning a well-deserved point against league leaders Salcom and even coming close to snatching all three.
A couple of costly mistakes in the second match gifted Moston Brook the win in what was a disappointing performance by the Seasiders. However, the team showed great character to bounce back, securing a vital 1–0 victory over Burnley, thanks to a coolly converted penalty from Fred Waller after a DOGSO (denial of a goal-scoring opportunity).
The final game against Preston was an exciting end-to-end encounter, with both sides creating chances but unable to find a breakthrough — the points shared in a goalless draw.
League Table (after October session):
1️⃣ Salcom (+8) – 39 pts
2️⃣ Moston Brook (+4) – 30 pts
3️⃣ Blackpool (+5) – 27 pts
4️⃣ Preston (+6) – 26 pts
5️⃣ Burnley (+2) – 24 pts
Just five points separate second from fifth, making the run-in incredibly tight. With two teams going up and two going down in December, and eight games still to play, everything is still to play for!
The Seasiders remain firmly in the mix — ready to push on and finish the season strongly. 💪
