Fleetwood Flyers 2 – Blackpool 3
The final game of the first half of the Indoor Dome League saw the Senior Seasiders edge out a hard-fought victory by the odd goal in five. Despite fielding a team affected by illness and injuries, the side worked tirelessly throughout and ultimately earned the crucial points.
Blackpool took a well-deserved first-half lead through Nick Carter, only to be pegged back by a goal from Bond for the Flyers. A brilliant save — using his head! — by Duane Playforth kept the scores level at half-time.
Midway through the second half, the visitors regained the lead with a well-worked free kick from out wide, expertly finished by the classy Paul Britton. However, Fleetwood equalized almost immediately, with Bond again finding the net.
Playforth, in goal, made two more crucial saves — this time with the correct parts of his anatomy — including a full-length dive to stop a shot that must have been difficult to see through a crowd of defenders.
As the game neared its conclusion, chances to win appeared at both ends of the pitch. However, a sweeping move from back to front, neatly finished by Andy Smith, sealed all two points for Blackpool just seconds before the final whistle.
The Seasiders head into the Christmas break with five points from six, while Fleetwood sits on four. We now wait to see the outcome of Fylde’s inability to raise a side to play Garstang this round.
Well played, lads — a true team performance. Great support from the Blackpool Ultras!
