Over 50’s Lancashire League. Game 2. Blackpool Senior Seasiders 1 Manchester Old Boys 3
Blackpool made 1 change from the last game with Paul Stead making his competitive debut and Nigel Raynor (manager for the day as the gaffer) dropping to the bench.
An even start to the game saw good chances for both teams with Ian Stewart, Nick Carter and captain Moody all being thwarted by fine saves from the Manchester keeper.
Jacko, in nets, was kept very busy by the ever dangerous Manchester number 8 who opened the
scoring with a fine finish midway through the first half.
Blackpool played some good stuff in their search for an equaliser which duly game a few minutes later with a fine finish from debutant Stedders.
Half Time 1-1
The second half started brightly for the Seasiders with Nick Cunliffe and Joe Bannister looking composed throughout at the back and the team having some lovely passages of play, unfortunately though we couldn’t find the second goal and were hit by a sucker punch when Manchester’s number 8 turned and volleyed an unstoppable strike past Jacko. It was a thing of beauty but unfortunately for the wrong team !!
Blackpool pressed for an equaliser with Laurence Berry coming on for the final 15 looking to unlock the Manchester defence but in all fairness we didn’t really look like getting back into the game and Manchester sealed the win with a hattrick goal for the pesky number 8..
A fair result in the end and good luck to Manchester Old Boys for the remainder of the season.
Cannot fault the lads efforts today, everyone put in a shift and played well. Sometimes you have to accept you’ve been beaten by a better team.
Special mention to today’s referee, Ian Liversidge, who was excellent in letting the game flow and communicating with the players.
Onto the next one – let’s bounce back fellas.
