Born Manchester, moved to Langley Estate, Middleton, slum clearance 1956. Educated Queen Elizabeth Grammar school 1958 to 63. First job warehouse clerk Cook & Watts, Portland Street, Manchester (now Britannia Hotel). Then Postal & Telegraph Officer for most of my working life. Played at Oldham Athletic for a short spell, goalkeeper (failed).

Had ACL injury age 19, career over! Played amateur until 1979, then moved to Blackpool. Played, coached, managed in B&FSFL until 1990’s. Retired from work 2007. Started WF circa 2012 ish. Now the best non striking striker to grace Heywood Sports Centre. But I scored plenty there when in my prime!
