Did you play back in the day?

In recent weeks, I’ve managed to dig out some absolute gems when seeking out articles and photos for my local amateur football Facebook Group.  Over forty years ago in the early 1980s, Blackpool FC secretary Peter Collins wrote an article on local amateur football for the match programme and these have included mentions for a number of our Senior Seasiders.

Although over forty years ago, a number of the player descriptions still hold true today,  Alan Cole was dominating central defence for Royal Oak Celtic FC (Poulton), Ian Jones, at 35, was described as the old man of the Postal Lions FC side, Neil Garth was a tricky fast winger who was unfortunately having to miss matches due to holiday commitments and Nick Carter’s bustling style was keeping opposing defenders at full stretch.  There were also mentions for Chris Turner (front runner), Micky Lea, John Henshaw, Nick Carter, Alan Addleston and Billy Singleton (Player manager).

I’ve also included the photos that I’ve collected over the years that feature Senior Seasiders.

I’m well aware that many of our members played their football elsewhere throughout Britain and it would be great if you could send me any photos of you playing in your younger days.  Simply E-Mail them to me at dwnr3@aol.com and I’ll add them to the gallery.

Hopefully, I’ll continue to find more.
