🏆 BLACKPOOL SEASIDERS OVER 70s ARE GMWFL DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONS 🏆
What a day for the Blackpool Senior Seasiders as our Over 70s side were crowned Greater Manchester Walking Football League Division 2 champions following an outstanding final round of fixtures.
The Seasiders produced four disciplined and determined performances to secure the title and promotion to the top division.
⚽ Results:
Blackpool 1–0 Panthers
Blackpool 1–0 Rochdale
Blackpool 1–0 Burnley
Blackpool 0–0 Ribble Valley
The squad showed everything that represents walking football at its best — teamwork, organisation, commitment and quality.
Against Panthers, Blackpool started brightly with composed passing football and strong defensive organisation. Ann Fuller calmly converted a penalty after sustained pressure forced repeated offences from the opposition.
The Rochdale match followed a similar pattern with Blackpool playing controlled football and Bobby providing an excellent outlet up front. Another penalty was awarded after a handball in the area, with Ann Fuller smashing home her second goal of the day.
The standout moment came against Burnley.
Ann Fuller produced what assistant manager Geoff Ellison described as “one of the best walking football goals I have ever witnessed.” Receiving the ball around 20 metres out, Ann turned her defender, spun brilliantly through 360 degrees and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner — a goal applauded even by the Burnley players.
The final game against Ribble Valley demanded resilience and determination, with Louise and Steve Waller producing crucial blocks as Blackpool defended superbly to secure the point needed to become champions.
Stand-in Managers Neil Martin and Geoff Ellison praised every player for their effort, discipline and commitment throughout the day.
